The skies will light up as southcentral Kentucky celebrates Independence Day with the following activities:
Fireworks displays will kick off Thursday with the 37th annual Thunderfest at the National Corvette Museum Amphitheater. In case of rain, the display will be Saturday. Gates open at 4 p.m. followed by 4:30 p.m. activities, including tethered balloon rides and children’s activities, such as inflatables, vehicle displays and music. The fireworks show will be at 9:15 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload.
The Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra will have its annual Star Spangled Spectacular and fireworks display Friday near Western Kentucky University’s Guthrie Tower. Participants can bring blankets, food and drinks for picnicking beginning at 6 p.m. The concert will be at 8 p.m. followed by a 20- to 25-minute fireworks display. For more information, call the orchestra office at 846-2426. The concert and fireworks will go on in light rain. In case of heavy rain, the concert will be moved to the Downing University Center.
A fireworks display will be at twilight Friday during Morgantown’s 28th annual Green River Catfish Festival at Morgantown City Park.
Fireworks in the Park will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Jim Roberts Community Park in Franklin. Cost is $15 per carload. In case of rain, the fireworks will be Sunday. For more information, call (270) 586-8999.
The Mammoth Cave National Park Association, Mammoth Cave National Park and the Mammoth Cave Hotel will present “Coming to the 4th” - an event of music, story telling and picnicking Friday at the park. A formal program will begin at 1 p.m. in the park amphitheater. For more information, call (270) 758-2225.
